Best DIY Ways to Remove a Carpet Stain

If you care about the look and feel of your carpet, then it pays off to take proper measures. We all know that stains can be unsightly no matter how old or new a stain might be on our carpets. But don’t fret! There are several cleaning options available for removing these pesky marks so we never have to worry again (even if somebody spills something)!

Let’s explore some great ways that can be used to remove carpet stains. That will keep your carpet looking beautiful. As nobody wants dirty floors, right?

Determine the Type of Stain on the Carpet

The first thing to do is determine the type of stain.

Every carpet needs different treatments, so it’s important that you identify which one is present before getting started with cleaning! This will save time and money in the long run as well; not only does this stave off potential problems but often times bad stains get worse when certain store-bought stain removal cleaners are used on them. In fact, some stains shouldn’t even be worked on and should be left to the professionals to clean other than blotting them up with a damp towel. Otherwise, they might never fully come out.

Stain Removal Cleaning Options

You can clean a stain in various ways. You have the option to use DIY methods, which are usually not effective for large areas but work well on smaller spots! Another solution would be hiring professionals who know what tools should really get rid of pesky stains like these without making them worse – this might include using chemicals that aren’t natural materials so be sure you ask first about their service options carefully beforehand though. More on this later.

The first option, DIY, should always be to simply dry the stain up. Whatever was spilled on the carpet be it red wine, coffee, juice, or anything else. Blot that stains up with a paper towel or a dry towel. Keep dabbing the stain with new paper towels until you can’t get any more of the stain out.

Next, use a spray bottle of water. Spray some water on the stained area and let it get absorbed by the carpet. Then repeat the process above. Dab the stain. Never rub. Repeat this process a few times to see if you can get the stain out.

If this does not work you can try water with dish soap.

Start by mixing 1 cup room temperature water with 2-3 drops dish soap. Use a dry towel or microfiber cloth for this process. Dip the towel into the cup with the dish soap solution and repeat the dabbing process. Repeat this as many times as needed.

If the above fails another option for cleaning up a stain is a mix of ¼ cup white vinegar and 1 tablespoon dish soap mixed with water. Keep in mind, this doesn’t work for all stains. In some cases, it might make your problem worse! Put the mixture into an empty spray bottle then spray as needed on carpet or another fabric surface; let sit 10 minutes before blotting using clean towels.

If none of these options got the stain out it might be best to try a professional option. The reality is that you can only do so much when it comes to removing a stain from a carpet if you are not using a steam extraction process. The best, proven and most reliable cleaning process that gets stains out of carpets.

Professional Options for Stain Removal

There are also other options that can be added when hiring a professional to clean stains from your carpet. Such as sanitizing and deodorizing. DITY stain removal makes this near impossible. As real sanitization and deodorizing of carpet stains that emit an odour needs to be completed with steam cleaning. Steam cleaning generally isn’t part of any DIY stain removal you do at home.
